The aim of the Collections for All campaign is to ensure that the potential of these essential resources is recognised, and to secure their long-term future.

I spent part of my career as a collections manager. It is inconceivable that museums could create intelligent displays on anything at all without knowing their subject matter - and making sure that knowledge isn't lost. To make use of your collections - which is what museums are for - you have to know about them and you have to look after them or else the whole thing falls apart.
